Council to Preserve Libraries Takes a Bold Step

Much like the New York Public Library's Lions Award Dinner, the Council to Preserve Libraries in Lancaster County agreed to develop a countywide Gala/Event for local politicians and people of influence proposed by System Board member, Hugh McMaster at the August 10, 2010 premier gathering.

The purpose of this event is to thank these key individuals for the their support of libraries and get out the message that despite their support libraries still need more help and support. This will NOT be a traditional fund raising event although tickets will be sold. Businesses will be approached for donations of location, services and food and explore corporate sponsorships of the event. It was agreed that each library should be work on their community's invite list to be incorporated into the master county list for the event. This effort will be spearheaded by Hugh and so far only two others have signed up to serve Kathy Thren, Director of Adamstown Library and Rhonda Kleiman, the System's Economic Development Manager. Hugh needs a lot more help to pull this off, please consider joining his team.

To join the effort, please contact Rhonda Kleiman at rkleiman@lancasterlibraries.org
